WHERE TO STAY IN HONG KONG + FOODIE GUIDE AT KERRY HOTEL

Posted by - May 11, 2018 - Asia, CynEats Foodie Guide, Travel, Uncategorized

Now I know this is a pretty BOLD statement to make, but I’m convinced that Kerry Hotel is the best hotel in Hong Kong.

Just a heads up… this is going to be a long-ass post, but I promise you it is worth the read if you’re looking for a place to stay in Hong Kong.

And if you’re not already considering a visit, you NEED to add HK to your vacation wishlist!

First off, it was foodie HEAVEN at Kerry Hotel- almost to the point of TOO many food options (shit, I never thought I’d ever say those words… HA!).

I woke up every morning and contemplated whether or not I should order room service or go to the buffet?? If that’s not vacation goals, I don’t know what is.

BUT there’s so much more to Kerry Hotel than the food (which is already a great reason). Kerry Hotel offers some of the best restaurants, crazy INSANE views, the most spacious rooms and first class gym + spa amenities I have ever experienced.

Choosing a good hotel in a new and strange city can make or break your entire trip. Here are some factors I look out for:

1. Location, Location, Location

When choosing a hotel you NEED to be in a great location. Kerry hotel is located right on the waterfront in Kowloon’s Hung Hom Bay. They have stunning views of the city’s iconic Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong skyline. To make it even better, the ferry and MTR (Whampoa Station) is just a few blocks away within walking distance. (Ferry- 2 minutes walking | MTR 3 minutes walking)

2. GYM + Amenities

You guys… this is the most EPIC hotel gym I have ever seen. I eat a million calories whenever I’m on vacation, so having a functional fitness center is really important to me. The gym at Kerry hotel is open 24hrs with different areas for cardio, free weights, strength training, spin and yoga. PLUS they have a 25-metre outdoor swimming pool which is heated in the winter!!

Other amenities: steam bath, sauna, Jacuzzi, spa treatment rooms, jogging track at the Promenade, and HITT classes every morning.

And did I mention the swimming pool opens at 6am? Because of jet lag, I woke up everyday for sunrise and either had breakfast in bed or by the pool.

3. 24hr concierge service

Having great concierge service is a game changer. They have all the connections + they know all the ins and outs. Let’s say you want a 7pm  reservation at one of the best restaurants in HK, they will work their magic. Beyond the usual booking services, they can suggest some pretty awesome local experiences and hidden gems that you might not read or hear about online.

4. Spacious rooms

If any of you guys have been to Hong Kong, then you KNOW that space is a commodity. Most places here are teeny tiny. Imagine paying 1 million dollars for a 600 sq ft home. Insane!

The Kerry Hotel rooms are big and spacious. I stayed in the “Deluxe Sea View” room with floor-to-ceiling windows that look out onto the water.

Note: All suites, including the Executive Sea View suites and signature suites, offer panoramic harbour views, luxurious furnishings and complimentary access to The Club facilities.

5. FOOD

The Kerry Hotel has FIVE different restaurants, all of which are extremely different and unique. So even if you’re not staying at this hotel, I’d highly recommend coming here for the food-!!

They range from a crazy food hall, to the biggest buffet I’ve ever seen, to one of the best dim sum experiences I’ve ever had.

Okay, so let’s start with the buffet because who doesn’t love a good buffet??

Big Bay Cafe

At Big Bay Cafe (buffet) there are seven different stations and each area is focused on a cuisine or cooking method.

You have master sushi chefs whipping up the most delectable sashimi flown in daily from Japan.

You have a dessert lab that spans across the hall with nitrogen cream, cake pops, CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN, and many many pastries.

Then you have a NOODLE station where you get to customize your own bowl, a wok-fry station and an international grill station serving up some of the best meats in town.

I thought my stomach was going to explode.

Oh wait. I almost forgot about the seafood corner filled with PILES of lobster, crab and oysters.

Yup. Exploding.

Hung Tong

A real gem of a restaurant is this contemporary Cantonese dim sum spot called Hung Tong located on the 7th floor of the Kerry Hotel. I was BLOWN away by everything here. In fact, I’ve never seen dim sum look so….. elegant! Have you?!

Not only is everything beautifully made, the tastes and textures of each piece of dim sum was mind blowing and extremely creative. Chef Ken Yu takes traditional Chinese recipes and adds his own spin on signature dishes like the steamed fresh crab claw with truffle and egg white, or the deep-fried sesame balls filled with sweet potato and abalone.

Red Sugar

Another insane experience at this hotel is having drinks at Red Sugar during sunset. The bar features a 270-degree wrap around terrace with views of Victoria Harbour and the Hong Kong skyline. At night, it turns into a happening place with live music and you get to watch the Hong Kong skyline light show across the harbour.

Again, even if you’re not staying at this hotel… coming here for a drink at the bar is a MUST!

Dockyard

And if all the above reasons isn’t enough, Kerry Hotel also has this EPIC food hall called Dockyard that caters to everyone’s palate at affordable pricing. Whether you’re craving ramen, boba tea, dumplings, bento boxes, or Michelin Bib Gourmand recommended beef brisket noodles… Dockyard has something for everyone.

To make it even better, Dockyard has its own app where you can browse the different menus from each station, order food and drinks, and pay within the app.

I recommend coming here Thursday through Sunday because they have live music, quiz nights, stand-up comedy and street performances. It’s such a fun place to start off your weekend.

PS: After you’re done at Dockyard, hop up to the 7th floor at Red Sugar bar to hit sunset hour!

So whether you’re planning a whole week in Hong Kong or just a quick 2-day trip, this hotel has it all. Come here for the views, the amenities, the service, and of course… the FOOD-!

I sipped on the drinks in the pool, but ate most of the food on the edge with my legs in the water =P
