What it’s like to hang out with Insta-Famous food bloggers

Posted by - July 15, 2015 - CynEats Foodie Guide

One word comes to mind: shameless.

Second thought: We’re all Asians (go figure). Except this one white girl. She has dreads (@carnivorr– What’s up girl!).

So anyways, this past weekend was spent in Orange County where I went on the crazziiessttttt/coolest/funnest FOOD crawl with some pretty amazing people.

Side: There is such an awesome foodie community down there (dare I say, it’s WAY better than SF!?!). And this was the first time I met sooooo many people who are on the same level of picture taking as ME. (If not, worse!) #teamcanteatyet

Basically… to be a food blogger, you have to be shameless.

Think: standing up on chairs, running across the mall to find the perfect background, having ice cream melt all over your hands, standing in squat position to get the perfect pavement shot. LOL. I swear, I’m not making any of this up either.

After a while, you don’t even notice people staring anymore. I mean… we’re already standing on top of chairs and tables at this point, so who cares.

Everyone has their own “style”

Meet my best friend @dailyfoodfeed (24.3k followers)– he’s known as the “messy boy,” AKA the one who no one wants to share their food with. By the time he’s done with it, it’s EVERYWHERE. Like, all over the floor, his fingers, and most of the time… his clothes. He also takes FOREVER to take his messy pics and he’s super hilarious (just like his captions)! If you haven’t started following already, what’re you waiting for?? You’re missing out on some major #foodporn!

@foodwithmichel (53.2k followers): He’s known as the “hands guy.” And notice how he always seems to find a white background? Well, he’s usually the one walking sprinting with an ice cream cone to find a white wall. And he also keeps a white tablecloth and a ladder in his car (I swear, I’m not making any of this up). #seriousbusiness

Unlike @dailyfoodfeed, Michel is WAY faster with his shots (and he’s clean too!).

@donutscookiesandcream (34.1k followers): They’re a FIT group of friends that lovessssss donuts, cookies and ice cream. So if any of you guys are looking for a bomb ass dessert spot in OC/LA, check out their website HERE and don’t forget to follow them on IG!

Side: I thought it was super awesome to find out that they’re personal trainers that know how to indulge! I’m telling yah… @christinabuii was just in a BIKINI COMPETITION! (<– sooo hot!), @dungttran owns a fitness training company, and @imtxl is a personal trainer! #thatbalacedlifetho

So here’s what I mean by “everyone has their own style”:

But first of all, let’s talk about this Cap’ N Crunch infused waffle, drizzled with condensed milk and topped with vanilla ice cream-!!! OMFG right?? I die.

Anyways, this was taken by 4 different people. See how everyone has their own style? We can all get a different shot of the same thing. This is why food blogging/gramming is interesting because there are SO many unique perspectives, which leads me to my next point:

These foodies are entrepreneurs!

I mean, yes, they do it for fun. But there’s something more behind it.

For example, the two dudes who run this huge account @tryitordiet (32k followers), also created the world famous Afters Milky Buns -!! It’s a warm, slightly crisped doughnut filled with ice cream and toppings (I’m literally still OMGing after my first bite).

The owners, @scottafters and @andythenguyen were also featured on OC Weekly for dominating the dessert game in Southern California after opening their third location of Afters Ice Cream (lines for this place are insane).

Honestly, this Milky Bun was one of the best things I’d ever eaten. Right before @dailyfoodfeed destroyed it with his hands:

Our other foodie friend- Leonard Chan was featured on OC Register’s “Most Influential 2014” and on OC Weekly’s “On the Line.”

He practically owns all the major the restaurants at Anaheim Packing District and is associated with more restaurants than I can count! (Remember that ice cream/ waffle pic above? That was from one of his restaurants @theironpress. If you guys are ever in OC, you GOTTA check it out!)

So here’s a little peak inside our foodie crawl:

(sorry about the poor quality snapchat video, I didn’t know how else to upload it! Help anyone??)

If you watched both videos, you’re probably wondering how we possibly ate all this food? Well… here’s a little secret: we don’t really eat! JK. We do, but we don’t eat ALL of it. It’s kinda humanly impossible.

Can you imagine?? We’d be like a thousand pounds!

Why we do these things?

So here’s the deal- we do these things not for us, but for our audience. It might sound kinda weird, but we want to create good content for the people following us… which is also why we put together these food crawls. It’s honestly a great way to meet, collab and share ideas for better content.

To love food is to not JUST enjoy the way it tastes. I love how it brings people together, how it makes you feel happy and full of good company.

And let’s just say…. it’s A TON OF FUN!

Thanks @dailyfoodfeed and @donutscookiesandcream for setting up this awesome foodie crawl! And a HUGE thank you to everyone who hosted us this weekend!
