Afternoon Tea at the classiest place in SF- The Rotunda

Uhm, have I been living under a rock?

Because AFTERNOON TEA is like the best thing ever.

I think I’m in love.

No really tho. If you live in England and this is what you get to do ALL the time, I’m jelly.

So without getting technical, afternoon tea is all about eating small little bites (petite sandwiches, scones, popovers, and other treats) while enjoying a cup of tea.

And if you’re anything like me, you want a little bite of everything. Like, just a little taste… yah know? Lolz.

I’m all about it.

So anyway, for my 25^th bday, I was surprised with an afternoon tea experience at The Rotunda inside Neiman Marcus in Union Square.

But first… Let’s take a moment and enjoy THIS view tho….

All the tables and booths sit under a glass dome and are arranged in a circle around the atrium. Pretty much, anywhere you sit is going to have an amazing view (inside & outside). During the holidays, you can even see the Xmas tree in Union Square.

Every meal starts off with a small serving of consommé and an equally small biscuit on the side.

Next came the most delicious popover that I’ve ever tasted. It was airy, fresh, buttery and hot. The strawberry butter is the perfect pairing, adding a subtle sweetness. It was soo damn good, that it got me asking for seconds and thirds.

When you order the afternoon tea, everything will come served on a two-tier tray that consists of tea sandwiches (cream cheese & cucumber, smoked salmon, deviled egg, turkey club, tuna, lobster), petite sweets, and warm scone.

Their menu changes often, depending on the freshest ingredients available. Which means, you’ll be surprised with something new every time you come here.

Cool right?

Yeah I thought so too.

Besides the afternoon tea, you can also order from their full menu (salads, sandwiches, pasta, salmon, etc)

While I was already full from the never-ending popovers & tea treats, my BF was craving for something a little more… “Man-ly”

He ordered the salmon.

 And all you need to know is that:

It was bomb.

The salmon was moist, the skin was crispy, and all the flavors worked really well together.

Anyway, back to the afternoon tea.

You get to choose from 3 options:

1. The Rotunda Tea ($35) – Comes with 6 tea sandwiches, 4 petite sweets, a warm scone, and a pot of tea.

2. The Grand Tea ($45)- Comes with Domaine Chandon Brut (champagne).

3. The Royal Tea ($49)- Comes with Schramsberg “Mirabelle” Brut Rose.

For tea options, you get to choose from a variety (your server can help you decide).

To sum it all up:

The Rotunda is such an awesome place to enjoy afternoon tea. It’s literally perfect for any classy occasion: lunch, bday, first date, second date, etc.

If you have any visitors from out of town, I’d recommend coming here to relax AFTER you’ve walked/shopped around Union Square. It’s a great place to unwind with a cup of tea- or- champagne.

Oh, and don’t forget to make your ressies in advance! Their tables fill up fast during the holidays.
