Sakana- Best Non-Overpriced Sushi in SF

  Posted by - May 13, 2015 - $$ (20-50)

I had to be certain that this place was legit.

So I came back like 10 times in the past 3 weeks. Not because I have sushi problems (denial), but because I wanted to do thorough research before recommending it. Duh.

But really though, are there AA meetings for people who can’t stop eating sushi??

Essppppecially to Sakana Sushi and Grill. I’ve been here so many times recently that I pretty much know everyone on a first name basis… and they almost always have my siracha + lemon wedges waiting for me.

But anyways,

Sakana is freaking awesome and they’ve been open for over 30+ years. Not just the quality, but the prices are on point. I honestly think it’s the best affordable sushi in San Francisco.

I mean, compared to every other sushi spot in SF, this place is like heaven on a budget. You can even get rolls for $5-$6 bucks and 5 pieces of sashimi for only $13!

In the past 10 times I’ve been here, I’d say 8/10 times everything was legit. Great quality (sometimes their toro is even on par with Pabu– they charge an arm & a leg).

And what’s even better? They are open LATE, till 12-1 am.

Side: Ryokos is also open late- they have a DJ and is more of a party scene. But lines are long and the quality isn’t as good as here.

Here are some of my favorites: yellowtail, hotate, tuna, toro, sake, amaebi

So it sum it all up:

They have a small store front, the service is always excellent, and the vibe is super chill (no need to get all dressed up here). This isn’t exactly cheap eats, but for some quality sushi you just can’t go wrong with Sakana.

I love Sakana, been coming here for many years. The prices are crazy cheap for what you get. Sometimes they have “off” days, but overall, they are one of the best sushi joints in the area.

Yeah I totally agree, 7/10 times everything was fantastic. The other 3 times, everything was decent. But for the prices, I just can’t complain!

I’ve been here before but my toro didn’t look like that! Will give them a try again, thanks!
