Kokkari Estiatorio Revisited (What to get: apps, entrees, desserts, wines)

  Posted by - July 11, 2014 - $$$ (50-100), NightTime, Restaurants, San Francisco

Ok so, this might be my favorite place to eat in San Francisco.

Like, it should be mandatory that everyone enjoys a delicious Greek meal this good once in a while.

Side note: they’re ranked #1 out of 4,918 SF restaurants on Tripadvisor, ranked on Zagat’s “Best Downtown Restaurants in City of SF,” and ranked on Yelp’s top 100 restaurants in the U.S.

You get the point.

From the giant brick fireplace with roasted lamb inside- to the rustic wooden décor and intimate ambiance- Kokkari is the perfect place to impress.

It’s makes for an awesome evening to hang with old friends- and of course, a perfect business dinner environment to close that deal.

So let’s make this easy and I’ll tell you exactly what to get:

Appetizers:

(Since everything is freshly prepared, you really can’t go wrong with any dish you order)

Zucchini Cakes – with cucumber & mint yogurt dressing – $10.75

Packed with tons of grated zucchini, had a touch of pine nuts, fresh herbs and bits of feta cheese…all enclosed within a light crispy outer layer. The mint yogurt dressing and crunchy slices of cucumber brings a light and refreshing taste all together. The cakes are large (2) and each are a little bigger than the size of my palm (I have small hands).

Greek Salad- $12

Had just the right amount of feta cheese- cucumber- olive- bell pepper- red onion ratio.

Honestly, it’s not hard to make, but it’s also the best Greek salad I’ve ever had.

Ps: The appetizer portions are generous #sharingischaring

Entrees:

(Anything roasted or grilled is going to be phenomenal)

Grilled Lamb Chops– with lemon oregano vinaigrette & potatoes – $42

The tenderness of the meat is unbeatable and the way they grill the chops melts with each bite you take. I order mine medium rare plus and it comes out perfect every time. I’ve been OMG-ing ever since the first bite.

Side: I’m usually not a huge fan of lamb- in fact I almost never order it. But after trying it for the first time at Kokkari, I’ve ordered it every time since- no joke. #lifechanging

Whole Fish- traditionally grilled with braised greens, lemon & Cretan olive oil (MP)

Ask the waitress what the fish of the day is. We’ve gotten it every time and each time, the fish comes out steaming hot & we’ve never been disappointed. The fish is so succulent and delicately seasoned every time that it’ll be hard to find another place that can prepare fish this good.

Dessert

I wish I could tell you guys about their other desserts here, but I can’t.

Why?

Because.

I get THIS every time.

Kokkari Sundae – Chocolate and vanilla ice cream with hot fudge, whip cream, and toasted hazelnuts – $10

I can’t handle how delicious this is. & lemme just say, you’ll love me for this one. MUST GET!

Wine

We ask for a bottle of Blackbird every time and if we’re lucky, they’ll have it in stock. If they don’t have it, ask your waiter for other pairings. This one goes especially well with the lamb chops.

My boobs sag a little from so much weight gain and now weight loss I’m 17 so this sometimes bother me. I wear a 36D bra. Do you think if I do chest exercises, it would really work in lifting them up, or at least getting them not to sag anymore?
