INDIAN food with a CALIFORNIA TWIST!!
I never knew Indian food could blow my mind. I always thought: heavy sauces and one too many spices.
It wasn’t until my first meal at Rooh, was my mind completely BLOWN. From the colorful presentation to the flavors to the spices, Rooh excels in every category.
I thought “HOW THE HELL does everything taste so good? I’ve never eaten anything like it!”
Well…. after speaking to the chef & asking to be invited into the kitchen (lol), I FOUND OUT-!!!
Conveniently located in the heart of SoMa district, Executive Chef, Sujan Sarkar (Times Chef of the Year in India), delicately balances rich traditional Indian flavors with fresh local California ingredients prepared with modern techniques.
I met with his brother Pujan who taught me all about the meaning of Rooh, which translates to “soul or spirit.” Their goal is to bring Rooh “the spirit of India” to San Francisco.
We went into the kitchen where he showcased their tandoori oven and smoke chambers. You can watch the entire video HERE.

It was nice running into you at OSL!! This is my favorite food blog and I took your recommendation to go to Rooh! My family and I had one of the best dinners here. We also loved their cocktail menu.
The colors in your photos are so vibrant! What kind of camera did you guys to take these?
I use Fuji xt2!
I made a reservation here for this Friday. What do you recommend trying for a first timer?
If it’s your first time, you should try their tasting menu :)
Can you do more videos like this? Keep it up!!
