So the real question is… what do you even do with yourself after eating at Brenda’s French Soul Food?
I have no idea.
I’m limiting myself to 1 visit a month
But on a more serious note…. I can pretty much die happy.
Now check out these crawfish beignet appetizers ($3):
Inside these French donut things, is deliciously cooked crawfish…with melted cheddar cheese… topped with scallions…and finished off with cayenne pepper.
It’s seriously a MUST get (they also have 3 other flavors for dessert. I’ll get to those below).
Now onto the dinner entrée’s:
Shrimp & Grits (13.25):
Brenda’s cheese-infused grits topped with buttery shrimp in a spicy tomato-bacon gravy. Comes with about 6 pieces of shrimp (sorry you can’t see them in the pic, I was way too hungry…)
TIP: put the grits onto your crawfish beignet <– total game changer.
BFC (15.75):
You get three pieces of Brenda’s secret recipe fried chicken, famous cream biscuit, hot pepper jelly & collard greens
All 3 pieces (wing, drumstick, and thigh) are perfectly cooked and juicy (dry chicken is the worst). Make sure to toss a bit of hot sauce and dab some of that hot pepper jelly for a serious kick. OMG and the biscuit that comes with the chicken is buttery and just the right amount of flakey! I didn’t really care about the collard greens…
Catfish des Allemands (16.75): Bronzed catfish, crawfish etouffee, and pecan rice pilaf.
It was alright…but honestly, I could have gone without this. If you come here for brunch, I hear their catfish eggs benedict is wayy better!
Side of Mac & Cheese ($5)
If you’re with a group of people, get the side mac & cheese to share!
Beignet Flight ($6):
For dessert, we had a sampling of each beignet (plain, chocolate, and apple).
The apple beignet tastes like an apple pie with cinnamon honey butter. SO YUM.
The chocolate beignet is filled with molten Ghirardelli chocolate. This will satisfy any sweet tooth cravings!
So next time you’re in the mood for some southern comfort in San Francisco…come to Brenda’s French Soul Food. This place will seriously not disappoint.
PS: It’s also the 2nd most rated restaurant on Yelp in SF –> so you can imagine just how long the lines are during peak hours. Come early, and put your name down on the list! Or come super late (like we did).
