Hmm… Sorry guys.
I apologize for doing this to you.
Because if you’re at home or at work while starving & reading this blog post… your stomach will probably hate me.
Just. LOOK:
Currently: hating myself right now for writing this post while hungry, starving, and drooling over my screen.
But anyways.
4505 Burgers & BBQ. It’s hard to beat them when it comes to BBQ in San Francisco (but also b/c there’s not many). I came here twice in a week and was equally impressed both times. They get major kudos for outdoor patio seating, creamy root beer on draft and a super impressive menu of BBQ platters, sandwiches and sides. You have a choice of brisket, chicken, pork spare ribs, fried chicken strips, etc and the sides range from spicy fries to baked beans, coleslaw and more.
Now onto the food:
This is called the “Best Damn Cheese Burger.” ($8.75 single/ $13.75 double)
I’m not making this up… that’s actually what it’s called.
The burger uses 100% grass fed, hand butchered beef and is served on a homemade buttery sesame scallion bun topped with Gruyere cheese, lettuce, onion, sliced red onion and secret sauce.
While I do agree that it is a damn good burger, I thought it was missing something (looks kinda plain, right?). I’d totally add an egg ($2) or bacon ($1.25) or BOTH… next time.
So while 4505 is known for having one of the best burgers in the city… I think they do other things even WAY better.
Like THIS:
Guys. It’s my favorite thing here…
It’s the brisket BBQ sandwich ($9.75).
It was juicy, smoky, and simply divine. It came with a nice slathering of slaw with some pickles on top. Every bite was like a party in my mouth and the buns were perfectly toasted.
It’s a must get.
My 2nd favorite thing here is the RIBS!!!
This is the smoked rib plate ($17). You get three quarters of a pound of ribs, pickles, buttery house roll, and two sides (I chose the potato salad and cole slaw).
The ribs. omg. They were tender, juicy, and moist. The meat practically falls off the bone, which is always a crowd pleaser when that happens. Oh yeah, don’t forget to douse the ribs in their BBQ sauce. It’s bomb.
I just wished I got more ribs for $17 bucks!
And this is the chicken sandwich. It was good, had great flavor, and even a nice crunch. But honestly? If you were to go for a sandwich, I think the brisket bbq sandwich wins (hands-down).
Here’s a pic of the patio (there’s barely any seating inside). And as you can see, these pigeons are ready to pounce on your food once you leave your seat.
Seriously. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR FOOD UNATTENDED.
So to sum it all up:
Come to 4505 Burgers & BBQ if you’re craving some bomb BBQ in San Francisco. They’re open 7 days a week at this location (Divisadero) or at the Farmer’s Market on Thurs & Sat (Ferry Building). Definitely come here with friends so you guys can have a bite of everything. Get the best damn cheeseburger or the brisket sandwich or the ribs.
It’ll really hit the spot. Trust me.
PS: Lunch lines run super long and sometimes they run of food. Come early!

[…] well (ground daily). I might say it’s even better than Marlowe and definitely better than 4505 Burgers & BBQ. Good job […]
oh WOW. I can’t believe I’ve never been here and it’s in my neighborhood!! That looks amazing!!
I’m jealous that you live so close! It’s a must try, immediately :)
Hi Cyneats,
I also read your review on the marlowe burger. Which one do you think is better? I am planning a trip to San francisco and am making a list of places to try. Thanks in advance!
Hi Benny,
In terms of a burger…. I think the marlowe burger is definitely way better (but also more expensive).
And if you want some bomb BBQ, go to 4505!
But honestly, I would add both places your list :)
I need this in my life right now!! and btw, apology accepted. It looks insanely delicious!
haha. It’s a must try!
This place is pretty legit for some smoked BBQ! Definitely of the best in the city in my books. The first time I came here, the ribs were sold out, so I opted for the cheeseburger which was damn good.
I totally agree! I haven’t found a BBQ spot nearly as good as this place :)
